New details revealed about The Marvels have explained Ms. Marvel's puzzling post-credit scene. As part of Marvel Studios' panel at D23 Expo, new footage from The Marvels features the three female leads finding themselves physically trading places with each other when using their respective powers, which is exactly what happened to Kamala Khan in the final moments of Ms. Marvel.

While there is still much to be revealed about The Marvels, the small details revealed today have started to build up a picture of what brings Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan together, with the three heroines seemingly being unable to control what is happening to them in the movie. The short clip also featured Monica Rambeau communicating with Nick Fury in space, which links into both the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the upcoming Secret Invasion series, and then swapping places with Kamala, who was seen swapping with Carol in the Ms. Marvel post-credits scene.

There are still a number of Marvel projects to be released before The Marvels arrives in cinemas next summer, having swapped release dates with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but it seems like many other recent movies The Marvels will be taking place in roughly the same time scale as the movies in Phase 4. Over the next year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline is pretty much locked in the year 2024, in the direct aftermath of the Blip, and with all indicators suggesting that The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars will be directly linked the early movies of Phase 5, The Marvels will be another piece of the large Multiverse puzzle that Marvel Studios are creating.

When it was first announced, the upcoming The Marvels was simply known as Captain Marvel 2, but as more details have been revealed it has become clear why the movie does not even carry the Captain Marvel heading anymore. While many of the recent MCU sequels such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder and the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have focussed on one Marvel hero in particular, The Marvels seems set to give its three female leads an equal amount of screen time.

In addition to this, The Marvels is set to link into the Samuel L. Jackson-led Secret Invasion, WandaVision, Ms. Marvel and potentially a number of other recent Marvel projects, which makes it a much more involved and pivotal cosmic adventure that could have many connotations for the future of the MCU. Of course all focus is currently on the Multiverse Saga, which we already know will be concluding in Phase 6, but beyond that will be some kind of payoff for the intergalactic story set in motion in Eternals, which deals with the same kind of off-world threats that Captain Marvel is very much part of.

While it will be a few months before we find out anything more about The Marvels, Kevin Feige has made sure that there are plenty of other projects to keep everyone busy in the meantime both in cinemas and on Disney+.
