Tottenham Hotspur are treating young midfielder Harvey White unfairly after failing to grant him a loan move this summer, according to pundit John Wenham.

The Lilywhites and sporting director Fabio Paratici have orchestrated a major summer overhaul, with Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie all joining Spurs.

In terms of outgoings, the most high-profile exits include Steven Bergwijn, Joe Rodon, Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks, who have all sealed moves away either on loan or permanently.

Some of the Premier League club's rising stars have also gone out on loan to further their development, with exciting striker Dane Scarlett really making an impression at League One side Portsmouth.

Speaking to Football Insider, club 'insider' Wenham has claimed that promising midfielder White should also have been given the green light to make a temporary move away from N17, especially considering the interest in him.

He explained: "We are now stagnating the development of Harvey White. Last January, Hull and other big clubs asked for him on loan and Tottenham said no.

"I understood it at that time, the selfish reasons. He sat on the first-team bench 20 times last season and didn't make an appearance.

"What on earth is he being kept around for this time? We signed six players this summer, he won't feature, he won't get on the bench.

"It's not fair on him. For many, he is already ready. I can't comprehend it."

We have to agree with Wenham on this one.

Dubbed a 'very talented' young player by those closest to Spurs, such as reliable correspondent Alasdair Gold, the 20-year-old actually enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Portsmouth himself over the second half of 2020/21.

White described the move as a huge learning curve and we believe that he is long overdue another shot at regular senior football. The midfielder spent all of last season playing in Tottenham's academy, so a move to the lower tiers would've been ideal for him to keep on improving.

Alas, maybe this is a deal that Spurs will consider in January.
