Samuel L. Jackson is reprising his long-time role as Nick Fury in Marvel's upcoming Disney+ series, Secret Invasion. The trailer was released Saturday at the D23 Expo, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect. The teaser follows Fury as he fights the Skrulls, the species of aliens introduced in Captain Marvel. The race, which can shape-shift to resemble nearly anything, has been infiltrating Earth for years, leading Fury and his team to second guess anyone they work with.

Secret Invasion will feature both new and familiar characters who have been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years. Cobie Smulders is set to reprise her role as Maria Hill in the series, asking Fury, "For years, you've been avoiding Earth. I have called for your help plenty of other times, and you've been pretty content to let those calls go straight to voicemail." To which Fury responds, "Yeah, well, this is different." In addition, Ben Mendelsohn will co-star as Talos, a Skrull who teams up with Fury, becoming an ally. Everett K. Ross, played by Martin Freeman, and War Machine, played by Don Cheadle, will also reprise their roles, although their level of involvement is still unknown. And, of course, Emilia Clarke is set to make her MCU debut in the series, which can be seen in the reveal trailer. Watch the official teaser found below.
Secret Invasion is slated to arrive on Disney+ sometime in 2023, although an exact release date has yet to be revealed.
Despite over 14 years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Samuel L. Jackson's character, Nick Fury, has seen a relatively small amount of screen time compared to the major characters and superheroes. Of course, he's appeared in many projects throughout the Infinity Saga; however, his backstory and day-to-day has been unexplored thus far. But, according to Secret Invasion co-star Cobie Smulders, the upcoming Disney+ series will change that.

She tells Entertainment Weekly we will see "a version of Nick Fury that they haven't seen before. You know like, what does he do to relax? Does he ever relax? What are his hobbies, you know? Does he have a family? What is his backstory? And they really do a deep dive into him and his life in this series." Of course, fans will always welcome more of Nick Fury, as Samuel L. Jackson has created a fan-favorite character throughout his time in the long-running franchise.
