The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and the Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon, have signed an order of the Canadian Government's Cabinet of Ministers recognizing the proclamation of King Charles III following the death of his mother, Elizabeth II.
After the death of the Queen, Charles has automatically become also King of Canada, although it is ratified by the proclamation of the Governor General at the request of the Privy Council Office, according to the Canadian public television, CBC.
The official document with the signature of Trudeau and Simon was read by the chief herald of Canada, Samy Khalid, after a 21-gun salute.
"We proclaim that His Royal Highness Prince Charles Philippe Arthur George is now King by the death of our last sovereign, Charles III, by the grace of God with the United Kingdom, Canada and the other kingdoms and territories," he said.
It now remains the proclamation of the period of official mourning and the summoning of the Canadian Parliament to take the oath of allegiance to the new monarch.
