A lot is changing for the royal family following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
As they enter a period of royal mourning declared by the new King Charles III, the senior royals are also taking on new roles and titles. King Charles, formerly Prince Charles, inherited his late mother's title as sovereign, while his wife, Camilla, will become Queen Consort.
Meanwhile, Prince William, who is next in line for the throne, will likely take on his father's title as Prince of Wales (King Charles has to give the title to him), and wife Kate Middleton will likely then become the Princess of Wales-a title which once belonged to Princess Diana.
At the same time, the pair, formerly the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have now added Cornwall to their titles, having inherited it from King Charles and Camilla the moment Queen Elizabeth died.
Duchess Kate's likely adoption of Princess Diana's former title is fitting, as for years the royal has been compared to her husband's late mother due to her grace, charm, and commitment to her children, as well as to her various charities and creative projects. Over the years, Kate has also honored Diana in her style, often wearing the stunning jewelry she was passed down from the late princess. The engagement ring Prince William proposed to her with, for example, once belonged to his mother. The piece-a 12-carat oval Ceylon sapphire on a white gold band, surrounded by 14 white diamonds-has since become iconic of the duchess, and a consistent tribute to Princess Diana.
