Romantic, historic and perfectly located in the historic downtown of Hermann, the Inn At Hermannhof is an ideal getaway for adults who want a relaxing weekend or for a girlfriend's getaway to Missouri wine country.
The European-style hotel is located just a block from the Hermann Amtrak station and an easy stroll to the numerous shops and restaurants in historic downtown Hermann.
The highlight of the Inn At Hermannhof is it's history, large luxurious rooms that all have a spa bath as well as a refrigerator and their delicious made-to-order full breakfast.

As Kansas City locals, we have many opportunities for great day trips and getaways. One of the well-known areas within our reach for short visits is the Hermann wine region. Recently, we visited for a weekend and were able to explore some of the historic downtown and nearby wine country during our stay at the Inn At Hermannhof.
I'd previously heard very positive reviews of this Hermann Missouri bed and breakfast and can now understand why it gets such high marks and why it is ranked as the #1 Inn in Hermann on TripAdvisor.
If you are looking for a Missouri wine country getaway, I can't think of a better option than the Inn At Hermannhof. If you love a historic bed and breakfast experience, this is ideal.
The Inn At Hermannhof is a good base for exploring the Hermann wine trail as well as the distilleries, breweries, restaurants and other attractions.
The Inn is located at the corner of 1st Street and Gutenberg Street. It's a block from the Missouri River and a short walk to all that historic downtown Hermann offers.
You can easily take the Amtrak from St. Louis or Kansas City, walk to the Inn at Hermannhof and have a vacation without the need of a car.
In 1837, the German Settlement Society of Philadelphia began searching the country for a settlement for Germans in America. The location of Hermann is reminiscent of the Rhine River Valley and the quaint German towns that reside along its banks. The German influence on Hermann is very evident as you walk the streets, dine in restaurants and view their historic buildings.
The hotel has an interesting past that includes a fire, hauntings, and a history that dates back to the mid-1800s.
The inn is located in a building that dates to 1869 but was destroyed by fire in 1886 and rebuilt that same year in Empire-style architecture, which was part of an early-nineteenth-century design movement representing the second phase of Neoclassicism.
In the mid-1880s the building was the Monnig Store, an all-in-one hardware, mercantile, pharmacy, and post office that was located on the first floor. At that time, the upper floors were the home of its well-to-do proprietor.
Today the first floor is the Inn At Hermannhof breakfast room, gift shop and hotel lobby as well as a Festhalle where events and festivals take place. The upper floors house the eight suites of the hotel.
When I walk into a hotel, I'm eager to see what kind of greeting awaits. It makes a big impression, negative or positive, and is often reflective of the kind of service I'm likely to expect throughout my stay. At the Inn At Hermannhof, I was met with a welcoming smile at the front desk, followed by friendly efficiency.
The historic Hermann Festhalle is home to the eight luxury suites that each have incredible amenities including heated bathroom floors, jacuzzi tubs for 2, fireplaces in both the bathroom and bedroom areas, walk-in showers with 7 shower heads, steam settings, and more.
There are an additional six hillside cottages available that are fully-restored wine houses overlooking the town of Hermann with panoramic views of the Missouri River. These cottages were built in the mid-1800s by the original settlers to the area.
Rooms in the historic building reflect the period's elegance. Each suite is decorated with period furniture typical of the town at the turn of the 19th to 20th century.
I felt at home as soon as we walked in our guest room which exuded comfort without sacrificing luxury. It was nicely appointed with simple, but stylish furniture, mirrors, and art. Our room had views of the Missouri River and 1st Street.
The guest room was a pleasure to spend time in. It's definitely a hotel room that deserves more than just time for sleeping and showering.
Our room was very spacious and had a large and very comfortable king-size four-poster canopy bed, and a cozy electric fireplace which warmed the room nicely on a cool and rainy April evening during our stay.
The room also had tic-tac-toe and checkers board games, which were fun to play while enjoying the delicious mini charcuterie plate and bottle of wine that were waiting for us in our room.
The bathroom was very spacious as well. It had a two-person Jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and a huge walk-in shower with a double jet.
There were fresh daffodils in our room and beautiful art.
Amenities also include two bottles of water, a Keurig and coffee pods, a mini-fridge, robes and TV.
A complimentary breakfast is served each morning. Ours started with fresh fruit, juice, coffee, and tea. We had a choice of a variety of fresh baked goods like muffins, biscuits, scones, and other breakfast breads that were made from scratch at the hotel.
For breakfast entrees, we could choose between sweet dishes like croissant french toast, or savory dishes like eggs benedict. Breakfast includes locally made sausage, bacon, or country ham, fresh eggs, and other American and German favorites.
If you can't bear to leave the comfort of your room and the idea of breakfast in bed is calling you, a full breakfast can be delivered to your room.
Artistic touches add so much to a hotel property and the Inn At Hermannhof has interesting art on display in the rooms and throughout the hotel.
A local artist has handpainted the guest room doors with feathers. She has also created most of the artwork in the rooms and many are on velvet (which you would never guess by just looking at the paintings).
A lot of the furniture throughout the building including the guest rooms and the breakfast room are pieces that have been tracked down that were made in Hermann in the 1800s.
Walking distance from the hotel, there are numerous antique shops to wander through with all kinds of interesting tchotchkes, furniture, art, and collectibles.
Some hotels shy away from any type of haunted history or happenings. But, a building that dates back to the 1800s is bound to have a few stories.
The Hermannhof Inn & Winery have even hosted their own paranormal event called "Hermannhof History and Haunts".
Guests of the hotel have reported hearing a man and small child talking on the third floor. People have also reported hearing a typewriter during the night.
A group out of ghost hunters from St. Louis have visited the Inn several times and have some interesting theories about some of the odd occurrences that could date back to a suicide that apparently took place on the third floor of the Hermanhoff Inn.
There are ten area wineries, five distilleries, and two breweries within a 15-mile radius of the historic town of Hermann and within a short driving distance of the Inn At Hermannhof.
If you have traveled to Hermann by train, simply arrange for the Hermann Trolley to pick you up for a day of wine tasting. They'll also take you to local restaurants during your day on the wine trolley!
During this trip to Hermann, we visited Stone Hill Winery, and Black Shire Distillery. We also took one historic tour and did lots of window shopping. Since it was a quick two-night getaway, we didn't have time to visit other Hermann Missouri wineries but would love to do that next time.
For dining options, there are several cafes and restaurants a short walk from the Inn on 1st Street and within downtown Hermann. We had a delicious dinner at Tin Mill, a restaurant located in a grain elevator that was built in the 1840s and is located across the street from the Inn.
The restaurant is rustic-chic with an upscale menu focusing on seafood, steaks and German specialties like Pork Schnitzel.
We also had two great lunches. One at Vintage 1847 Restaurant, which is located at Stone Hill Winery and a five-minute drive from the Inn.
Vintage 1847 Restaurant specializes in German cuisine and of course, there is a wonderful award-winning Stone Hill wine selection by glass and bottle. During our visit, we enjoyed their locally made sausages with sauerkraut and pickled onions, Bavarian Pretzel Sticks, and a classic Reuben they were able to make on a gluten-free bun.
Our second lunch experience was at the Concert Hall and Barrel Tavern (a short walk from the Inn). Built in 1878, it is the oldest continually operating tavern west of the Mississippi. At first glance, it looks like a saloon that happens to serve food.
The menu includes a wide selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, steaks, pizzas, seafood and features German specialties year-round. The food is a leap above bar food and they have a great wine list featuring Hermann wines and Missouri beers.
I would easily have enjoyed a much longer stay at the Inn at Hermannhof and in the town of Hermann. There are many more things to do, restaurants to try, and wine tastings to enjoy.
My biggest piece of advice is to book enough nights at the Inn at Hermannhof so that you have time to luxuriate in the room and make the most of such a lovely hotel and its amenities.
Hermann is easy to reach from many points in Missouri, Western Illinois and for anyone traveling through Missouri on I-70. It's a good place to stay not only for wine country vacations but also good for day trips and weekend getaways.
