Prince Charles is now officially King Charles III after a ceremony on Saturday morning.
The new king ascended to the throne in a traditional ceremony at St. James's Palace in London. A number of leading British political figures were in attendance for the event, along with members of the royal family.
"I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and of the duties and heavy responsibilities of sovereignty which have now passed to me," he said.

"I know how deeply you and the entire nation, and I think I may say the whole world, sympathize with me in this irreparable loss we have all suffered."
King Charles also declared the day of his late mother's funeral will be a public holiday in the U.K. The date has not been formally announced, however it is expected to be around September 19.
The ceremony came after Charles became at age 73 the oldest British monarch to become king, surpassing King William IV, who became king at 64 years old in 1830. Charles's wife, Camilla, is now the "Queen Consort," Buckingham Palace confirmed.
