For British royalists, there was never a good time to hear the queen had passed away. Unfortunately, one unlucky grandma heard the news while out for a meal with her family, bursting into tears at the table.
Posting to TikTok on September 8, @elliotcroft struggled to hide his embarrassment as his grandma broke down in U.K. restaurant chain Toby Carvery.
However, users found the clip both hilarious and heartwarming, with the post receiving over 6.2 million views, almost 625,000 likes and nearly 16,000 shares in less than 24 hours. It can be seen here.
Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, September 8 at the age of 96. The nation recently celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, which marked her 70 years as queen. In 2015, Elizabeth became the longest-reigning monarch in U.K. history, taking the crown from Queen Victoria, who ruled for 63 years and seven months.
Sadly, her health steadily declined over the past year, with the queen having to miss out on certain royal duties in recent months. In November 2021, she was unable to attend Remembrance Day events as usual due to a sprained back. And in May of this year, Charles took over the speech for the state opening of Parliament due to the queen's mobility issues.
Tributes have been pouring in since her death was announced by Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening. Everyone from Janet Jackson to Donald Trump has expressed their condolences, along with the nation she presided over for seven decades. Videos of mourners have taken over the internet, showing the impact Queen Elizabeth II's death has had on the U.K. and beyond.
In the clip, captioned "Nan's quite literally in tears over the bucket-kicking of Liz," Elliot's grandma can be seen crying with her head in her hands, while another family member comforts her.
"Come on mother...Ya don't know her," says his dad in the background, while the camera pans to Elliot looking incredibly awkward.
TikTokers couldn't get enough of the video, with user Phoebe calling the footage "so sad."
"Bless her," said Yasmin Paige Pile.
"People [don't] realize the older generation will definitely feel the loss a lot more," wrote Kirtsy_Xo.
"You gotta remember that to all these older ladies.. Lizzie was THE it girl, she was the goal," commented Andrea Jade Stolte-A.
Indecision 2:04 said: "She lived through a time where the queen's words got them through the rebuilding of Britain after WW2. It's sad for her man."
Others couldn't get over the savage burn delivered by her son, with Neve calling it "brutal."
