Japan's prime minister calls Elizabeth II's death «a loss to the international community.»

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, has expressed his condolences to the British royal family on the death of Queen Elizabeth II, a milestone he described as a loss for the international community.

"Upon hearing the news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the British royal family, the British government and the people of the United Kingdom," the Japanese prime minister said in a statement.

"The death of Elizabeth II, who led the United Kingdom, is a great loss not only to the British people but also to the international community," he added.

Kishida recalled the ties that unite Japan and the United Kingdom, and stressed that the Japanese people support the British people in overcoming "this deep sorrow".
