The casting of Marvel's First Family might be the biggest question anyone has about the Fantastic Four's future. With Kevin Feige confirming the film's release in 2024, fans have been eagerly waiting for the producer to reveal which actors will introduce the superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Penn Badgley and John Krasinski have been considered for the role of Reed Richards, a new rumor suggests that Jodie Comer is up for the part of Sue Storm.

The news comes by way of The John Campea Show's host who says Comer will be announced as Sue Strom at the upcoming D23 Expo. "There's one report going around that I want to throw some fuel on," the film critic said before stating that the Killing Eve star will suit up as the Invisible Woman. Interestingly, Campea said he also heard other names thrown around for Sue Storm. But Jodie Comer is seemingly the frontrunner. Marvel's panel is scheduled for September 10th, so fans won't have to wait long to see if the actress is part of the Fantastic Four.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman made her comic book debut in 1961's The Fantastic Four #1. She is a founding member of the Fantastic Four and was the first female superhero created by Marvel during the Silver Age of Comic Books. After being exposed to a cosmic storm, Sue was able to bend light waves to turn herself (and other objects) invisible. She can also project powerful fields of invisible psionic, hyperspace-based energy which are used for offensive and defensive effects.

Since their debut, the Fantastic Four have been portrayed as a dysfunctional, but loving family. Breaking convention with other comic book archetypes of the time, they would squabble and hold grudges, and eschew anonymity in favor of celebrity status. Over the years, Sue Storm has been adapted several times in animation. She was also portrayed in live-action by Jessica Alba in two films (The Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) released in 2005 and 2007, and by Kate Mara in 2015's Fantastic Four. The Invisible Woman was played by Rebecca Staab in an unreleased 1994 film.

Kevin Feige first announced that a Fantastic Four film set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in development at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. But no other information was revealed. A year later, Jon Watts was tapped to direct. But he left the project in April 2022, citing personal reasons for stepping away. Fortunately, the studio found a suitable replacement in WandaVision director Matt Shakman. Feige has also said the new movie won't be another origin story and will instead show audiences something they have never seen before.

The Fantastic Four will hit theaters on November 8, 2024. The film is the first of three blockbusters planned for Phase Six, with two new Avengers movies set to follow. That includes Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on May 2, 2025, and Avengers: Secret Wars on November 7, 2025.
