"Adorable" footage of Princess Charlotte twirling her hair has been compared to a similar clip of her mother, Kate Middleton, and gone viral after being uploaded to video sharing social media platform TikTok.

The video, which shows Charlotte on her first day of school in 2019 and Kate during a zoom call with teachers last year, has been viewed over 600,000 times on TikTok after being posted by user royalfancams, receiving in excess of 14,000 likes.

The TikTok video was proving very popular as Charlotte, 7, alongside brothers George, 9, and Louis, 4, started a new school located seven miles from the queen's Windsor Castle estate on Thursday.

The post, captioned "Princess Charlotte is a hair twirler like her mummy," has been praised by commenters as an "adorable" comparison between mother and daughter.

"So beautiful" wrote one user, with others adding "adorable" and "Beautiful mum and daughter ??????"

A further comment read: "It's a pony tail thing!"

Both Kate and Charlotte have sported ponytails for public appearances, with the Duchess of Cambridge often praised for having perfect "princess hair."

In recent months, Charlotte has adopted a hairstyle that incorporates two braids to keep her hair out of her face and which are tied at the back of the head. This style was worn throughout Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.

It isn't the first time social media users have highlighted visual similarities between Charlotte and her relatives.

In August, during her first solo appearance with her parents at an official event, the princess attended the 2022 Commonwealth Games hosted in the city of Manchester.

The royal was flown to the event in a helicopter by Prince William and during a photo opportunity with a sports charity after watching swimming and hockey fixtures, she was seen mirroring William's pose with her hands arranged in her lap.

Also in August, a viral video circulated comparing the princess to her grandmother, Princess Diana, and great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. A clip of the royal batting down the hand of Prince Louis during the jubilee celebrations was cut together with footage of Diana doing a similar thing to Prince Harry at an official event in the 1990s. Similarly a clip of the princess waving from the balcony of Buckingham Palace was compared to the queen's doing the same thing.

Kensington Palace announced last month that the princess and her brothers would all start at Lambrook school in Berkshire this September, George and Charlotte having previously attended Thomas' Battersea school near the Cambridge family's Kensington Palace home.

On September 7, the children attended a "settling in afternoon" with their parents at the school, where they were introduced to headmaster Jonathan Perry and an authorized photographer was permitted to take official photographs.

This year has seen Charlotte take her most prominent public role yet. As well as attending the annual Trooping the Colour parade as part of the queen's Platinum Jubilee, she also attended the celebratory concert, pageant and visit to Wales with her parents and brother George. She made two balcony appearances alongside her great-grandmother, the 96-year-old queen.

Charlotte also recorded her first video message of support, wishing the England women's soccer team, nicknamed "the Lionesses," "good luck" ahead of their final match in the 2022 Euro Women's championships in July. The team would go onto win, with Prince William rewarding the players with a spontaneous hug when presenting their awards.
