Beef Jerky Experience brand's Chop House Style Prime Rib Flavored beef jerky has been recalled nationwide and taken off the company website because the "beef jerky experience" might include listeria.
The USDA-posted recall notice says Magnolia Provision Company pulled 497 pounds of the beef jerky after telling the USDA that third-party lab testing found listeria on a "product contact surface sample."
Listeria kills about 260 of the 1,600 Americans infected each year, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. Senior citizens, pregnant women and children under 5 are the most vulnerable to listeria's worse effects. Listeria can cause stillbirths and miscarriage. Listeria symptoms include nausea, diarrhea, high fever, severe headaches, stomachaches, stiffness, confusion and poor balance.
The beef jerky came in 2-ounce, 8-ounce and 16-ounce packs with "EXP 8/25/23" on the back of the package. If you have any of these packs, throw them away or return them to the store for a full refund.
