Another Philadelphian murdered because of soft-on-crime policies

Milan Loncar should still be alive today.

The 25-year-old Philadelphian was walking his dog when Josephus Davis murdered him in January 2021. It was another white person murdered by a black man in Philadelphia (a stat that too often gets ignored). It was another murder by someone with a lengthy criminal record. It was another murder committed by another criminal who had only been let back on the streets because of the city's horrific criminal justice policies.

Last week, the courts did what they should have done years ago and are keeping Davis in jail.

Davis and another man approached Loncar on the evening of Jan. 13, 2021, shortly before 7 p.m., Philly Voice reported. After they had gone through his pockets, Davis shot Loncar in the chest, and the two suspects fled. Loncar died later at Temple University Hospital. Davis was captured less than an hour later and charged with murder, first-degree conspiracy, second-degree robbery, and illegal firearms offenses, according to reports.

Yet based on Davis's record, this crime should have never happened in the first place. He has an extensive violent criminal history. He was arrested four times for aggravated assault and robbery, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. At the time Loncar was murdered, Davis was on probation for robbery and was awaiting another trial after he was charged with carjacking and assaulting a jail guard.

However, all of his criminal acts still weren't enough for Philadelphia's criminal justice system to hold him accountable. Just two weeks before Loncar was murdered, a judge inexplicably decided to reduce his bail significantly, multiple outlets reported.

Bail was initially set for Davis at $100,000 and $200,000 for two different charges of motor vehicle theft and kidnapping and aggravated assault on a prison guard, respectively, Philly Voice reported. But for these new charges, after the four prior arrests, a judge inexplicably reduced bail to $20,000 and $12,000 - both of which Davis posted. It was as if he'd been rewarded for committing more crime.

Davis was clearly a threat to his community. There was no legitimate reason for any judge to reduce his bail given his previous criminal acts. All of Philadelphia would have been better off had Davis remained in jail. But Democrats care more about prioritizing criminals than protecting innocent people from harm. And because of their horrifying negligence, an innocent man was murdered while walking his dog. Suffice it to say, Philadelphia's judiciary has blood on its hands.

Philadelphia's failed policies allowed this murder to happen. In a just world, the judge who made the inexplicable and horrific decision to reduce Davis's bail would also be held accountable. Time and time again, these radical left-wing ideologues make disastrous decisions. While they push ideological agendas, innocent people suffer. Milan Loncar should be alive today, and Philadelphia's criminal justice system should be blamed for why he is not.
