Forest Green Rovers produced a fine performance to secure their first home victory in League One as they beat Accrington Stanley 2-1 at the Bolt New Lawn.

Goals from Reece Brown and Josh March secured three points in a tight affair against a Stanley side also looking to stave off the relegation places

The visitors had more of the possession but failed to make it count, as Forest Green were clinical when the opportunities arose.

The win takes Rovers onto seven points but doesn't quite see them out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Forest Green boss Ian Burchnall made changes to his usual 3-5-2 system and instead opted for what looked more like a 4-4-2, and two frontline strikers.

Stanley full-back Mitch Clark floated a deep cross for Sean McConville who headed towards goal, but McGee was down smartly to save on 14 minutes.

New man Connor Wickham found himself in space on the half-hour mark and curled an effort from the edge of the box that was safely pouched by shot-stopper Lukas Jenson.

Brown then had the pivotal moment of the half, he controlled and pivoted in almost one movement and struck a right-footed effort into the far corner from the edge of the box.

Myles Peart-Harris was central to the majority of FGR's play, picking up useful positions and always on the half-turn.

Stanley had much of the play in the second half and finally made their possession count when Clark hammered a low cross in the direction of Tommy Leigh who helped it home six yards out.

There was more drama to come however, as substitute Bryan Fiabema produced a fine low cross for March who converted six yards from goal.

Fiabema almost made it three moments later when he latched onto a loose ball and powered an effort towards goal, but Jenson tipped over the crossbar.

Rovers saw out a crucial victory despite Stanley pressure, with home fans enjoying their first taste of League one success.
