Sep. 6-Ritter Library recently teamed with Lorain County Community College to bring the history of art to its halls at 5680 Liberty Ave. in downtown Vermilion.

Jennifer Dufner, adult services manager at the library, said the program is the newest to come out of a yearly grant.

"We received a grant through Lakeland Community (Foundation) for $500 again this year, and the grant always goes toward programming that support the community," Dufner said.

LCCC, which hosts its own art history with the Beth K. Stocker Art Gallery in the Stocker Center on campus located at 1005 Abbe Road in Elyria, reached out to Ritter Library earlier this year regarding classes it offered with renowned local artist Sean Crum.

Crum, who is a native of Cleveland, has been a professional artist and musician for nearly 40 years since receiving his bachelor's degree in arts from Cleveland State University.

From there, he has achieved 34 art and educational awards as well as featured in a variety of art shows ranging from solo to group efforts.

After retiring from teaching at North Ridgeville High School, Crum partnered with the LCCC Center for Lifelong Learning and has offered at least 25 lectures into art history.

"We would love to have offered all the classes, but due to time constraints, we decided to pick the top five from Crum's repertoire," Dufner said.

Earlier this summer, the library hosted two classes and will hold the final three in September in its community engagement center.

All classes are free and open to the public.

"Our attendance has been absolutely wonderful with the number growing for each session," Dufner said.

The next class is called "Picture This: The History of Photography" and will take a deep dive into the history of how photography and art combine.

"Since its infancy, photographs have captured our world like no other artistic medium," Crum said. "They are absolutely and undeniably a form of art."

Classes start at 11 a.m.

The last three classes are Sept 12, Sept 26 and Oct 3 and require registration due to limited capacity.

Registration is available at ritterpubliclibrary.org/content/art-history-sean-crum.
