Meghan Markle demonstrated a keenness for colour last night, when she draped herself in head-to-toe red to deliver a speech at the One Young World Summit 2022. Today in Dusseldorf, the former Duchess has stripped back her style.

Accompanying Prince Harry at the Invictus Games One Year to Go event, Markle dialled down the drama in favour of minimalism. For the occasion she wore a pair of high-waist, belted cream Brandon Maxwell slacks which came with an extra wide leg, and hung over a pair of stilettos. The trousers retail at £1,040, and you can purchase them while stocks last here.

On top, she revealed her arms and shoulders with a sleek-cut, ribbed vest from LA designer Anine Bing. The vest, which is a blend of acetate, nylon and cashmere, comes in a halterneck silhouette (you can purchase it here). It provided the Duchess with a more laid back but expensive image, in contrast to the looks we saw her don during her time as a working royal.

Then, you could bet on a conservative Clare Waight Keller designed Givenchy dress coats, smart blazers or plain shift day dresses than anything more relaxed, but this has shifted as she leans into her new life with Prince Harry in Montecito, California.

In her recent interview in The Cut, Markle let on to the strict rules of royal dressing. "I was an actress," she told the interviewer, letting on that she told the firm: "Tell me what to wear, and I'll do it." Now, she looks to be finding her footing with a new look.

The interview, which was released on 29 August, made headlines thanks to her comments, many of which shed light on the new life she and Prince Harry have built in The States. The pictures which accompany it are glossy and high fashion, but with an at home and relatable feel: Chanel tweed dresses, but slouchy and worn on a shabby chic outdoor bench or a crisp white, asymetric Proenza Schouler suit worn in the garden.

Expect to see more of this premium casual style from the Duchess as the couple continue their European trip. They will return to the UK on Thurdsay for the WellChild Awards, which will see the Prince give a speech.
