If you're looking for a different kind of seasonal treat this fall, McDonald's upcoming addition to the McCafé Bakery line may be just what you're craving.
Starting September 14, participating McDonald's restaurants nationwide will begin serving the Cheese Danish. This rare addition to the McCafé food lineup will be available all day and offer an enticing blend of pastry, cheese, and vanilla.
The flakey pastry is filled with sweet cream cheese and topped with a buttery streusel and a light drizzle of vanilla. And while it's a novelty for many of us, the Danish is actually a remixed, fresh take on a pastry McDonald's first added to its menu in the 1980s.

If your mouth is already watering, don't wait too long. The Cheese Danish will only be available for a limited time.
Historically, McDonald's has been very hesitant to add new baked goods to its menu. In fact, prior to launching the McCafé Bakery lineup in 2020 with the Apple Fritter, Blueberry Muffin, and Cinnamon Roll, the McDonald's menu hadn't seen a new pastry added in over a decade!
The Golden Arches are clearly more willing to consider new pastries in recent years. Last year saw the introduction of the limited-time Glazed Pull Apart Donut, but customers loved the item so much McDonald's decided to bring it back earlier this year. If customer response is positive enough, the Cheese Danish will likely make a comeback as well.

An absolute juggernaut in the quick-service industry, McDonald's didn't sell any breakfast items at all for decades. The chain's foray into the morning daypart started when a Pittsburgh-based franchise owner Jim Delligatti decided to start selling doughnuts and sweet rolls at his McDonald's restaurant in 1970.
The baked goods were a local success, setting the stage for a nationwide breakfast menu rollout in 1977. Less than 10 years later, McDonald's was serving one in four U.S. breakfasts not prepared at home.
