Hull KR playmaker and England Knights halfback Mikey Lewis has been nominated for this year's Betfred Super League young player of the season.
He joins reigning Super League young player of the year Jack Welsby and powerhouse Leeds forward Morgan Gannon for this year's award. Although it's been a frustrating season for Lewis injury-wise, when on the field, he has caused fireworks scoring eight tries in his 16 appearances, including a sensational hattrick against Hull FC at Magic Weekend back in July.
Like many Hull KR players in 2022, Lewis will be frustrated not to have spent as much time as he wanted to on the pitch, as the Robins' medical team worked overtime this year, with 29 players suffering injuries throughout this campaign, resulting in Rovers missing out on a playoff spot.

It's crazy to think Lewis is still 21 and, realistically, could have at least another 15 years in a Red and White jersey. Incoming coach Willie Peters is a huge fan of the West Hull amateur, and it is expected Lewis will have that free role under Peters as he continues to flourish and be a key cog in the Hull KR wheel going forward into 2023.
Injuries could play a part in Shaun Wane's thinking, but many supporters throughout the competition think Lewis should be a part of the England team for this year's World Cup. However, he faces competition from more experienced players such as George Williams and Johnny Lomax. Still, his creative spark and fearless approach could earn him a surprise call-up to represent his country on the biggest stage next month.
