The city of Sheldon, located in the northwestern part of Iowa, is prepping for a big celebration. As the city approaches its 150th anniversary, big festivities are on hand for the coming weekend. And the centerpiece was meant to be the opening of a time capsule that was buried 50 years ago.

There's just one problem: No one can seem to remember where it was buried.

"We're trying to find instructions on exactly where it's at before we just start digging," says Ashley Nordahl, the director of Sheldon's Chamber of Commerce. "We think we know where it is, but to dig up concrete in the park when we have such a big event going on, we're just postponing that."

So rather than making the event BYOS - Bring Your Own Shovel - and having the revelers each pick a spot and go to work, the city is bringing in the experts.

A company that utilizes underground radar to find things buried beneath the surface has been contracted to aid in the finding of the artifact left for future folks way back in 1972.

"We still have every intention of finding it and digging it up," Nordahl says.

"It's just a little more involved than what we originally had planned."

Other Sesquicentennial festivities will continue as planned this weekend. You can visit the city's website for more information.
