A large blaze was pictured emerging from a building in what is believed to be an industrial unit Lakeside Business Park near the motorway, with a plume of black smoke rising over Staffordshire. In video footage posted on social media, constant popping explosions can be heard as the fire engulfs what appears to be some outdoor storage.
One eyewitness said that as of 6.35am this morning (Monday) they could "hear small explosions", adding: "It's a big one."
Another asked: "What's with all the bangs in Cannock? Sounds like Fireworks."
Meanwhile, one local said there had been "non-stop" fire engines and ambulances past their home.
The fire can be heard as far as Hednesford, some 3.7miles away from the site.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Services were contacted for further details.
The M6 toll road reported congestion between Junctions 7 and 10 as of 7.25am, but remained clear.
The motorway reaches up around Birmingham and through the Cannock area, and is used to avoid congestion on other roads in the Midlands.
