The latest trailer for The CW's period action series Walker: Independence teases a vengeance storyline while showcasing the 1800s Western costumes and setting.
Arrow and Shadowhunters star Katherine McNamara plays Abigail "Abby" Walker, an ancestor of Jared Padalecki's Walker character. She arrives in Independence, a small town for which her husband was the new sheriff before he was killed on their journey, only to discover that the new replacement sheriff is her husband's murderer. The new trailer shows McNamara sporting period guns and planning to get revenge for her husband's death. "You asked me if I was staying here for revenge," Abby said in the trailer. "Maybe it's justice."

The town of Independence is full of "diverse, eclectic residents running from their own troubled pasts and chasing their dreams" Alongside McNamara, the series is set to star Matt Barr as lovable rogue Hoyt Rawlins, Greg Hovanessianâââââââ as Sheriff Tom Davidson, Lawrence Kao as Kai, Justin Johnson Cortezâââââââ as Calian, Philemon Chambersâââââââ as Deputy Sheriff Augustusâââââââ, Katie Findlay as Kate, and Gabriela Quezadaâââââââ as Lucia Reyes. Barr appeared in the first season of Walker playing a character of the same name -- his character in Independence is his Walker character's ancestor. Yet, it is currently unknown if any other actors from Walker will appear on the show.
The show is a prequel to action crime drama series Walker, which is set to begin its third season this fall. Interestingly, Walker itself arrived as a reboot of 1990s western drama television series Walker, Texas Ranger, which starred Chuck Norris and ran for eight seasons between 1993 and 2001. The main series stars Supernatural alum Jared Padalecki, who also serves as an executive producer on both his own show and Independence.

Walker: Independence is not the only prequel series from The CW this season, as the Supernatural prequel series The Winchesters will also premiere this fall. It will be narrated by Padalecki's Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles, reprising his role as Dean, and will star young versions of the Winchester brothers' parents, played by Meg Donnellyâââââââ and Drake Rodger, as the elder sibling attempts to unravel the mysteries of his parents' pasts. In a tumultuous time for the CW, which canceled much of its lineup this year, Independence and The Winchesters are two of only three new shows on the network this fall alongside DC Comics series Gotham Knights.
Walker: Independence premieres Thursday, Oct. 6 on the CW, immediately after the parent show Walker.
