Filming for the new Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte is set to begin in November. This past July, it was confirmed that Amandla Stenberg would be starring in The Acolyte, likely ias a Jedi. Stenberg rose to fame for their role as Rue in The Hunger Games, and has since starred in Everything, Everything, The Hate U Give, and most recently in the horror-comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies. The show is created by Leslye Headland, who will also serve as The Acolyte's showrunner. Headland is known for co-creating Russian Doll and for directing Sleeping With Other People.

It's been a few years since fans first heard about the new Star Wars series - The Acolyte was first announced in April 2020. Since then, it's been revealed that The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller set 100 years before the Star Wars prequels, in the final years of the Star Wars High Republic era. Other than a genre and general time period, not many details have been revealed about The Acolyte. As a result, fans have been waiting with bated breath for updates on this new installment in the Star Wars franchise.

Now, KFTV reports that The Acolyte will begin filming this November. This update comes two and a half years after the show was first announced. Filming will take place at Shinfield Studios in Berkshire, United Kingdom. Elaborate sets are reportedly being built at the studio ahead of production beginning.

The Acolyte is the latest in a growing number of Star Wars universe TV shows that have either already been released or are currently in production. The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi are already out, while Ahsoka, Andor, Skeleton Crew, Lando, and The Acolyte are in various stages of production or about to be released. The difference between the shows that have already been released and the ones that are upcoming is that the upcoming shows have more to do with the Star Wars prequels rather than the sequels. With The Acolyte specifically, the show seems likely to reveal answers to questions fans have had about the prequels, like how the return of the Sith and their attack on the Republic really happened.

There's no way to tell exactly how long The Acolyte will be in production, but since it's set to have eight episodes, the crew could be filming in Berkshire for several months. Hopefully, the announcement of a filming date means that there will soon be set photos and footage released soon, as well as more information about the characters, cast, and storyline. Since The Acolyte isn't beginning filming until the end of 2022, it probably won't be available to stream on Disney+ until late 2023 at the very earliest, but more likely sometime in 2024.
