A furious bride-to-be has vented her frustrations online after her mother-in-law announced she would be joining the couple on their honeymoon.

The woman wrote in to relationship expert John Aiken's Dear John column on None Honey to complain about the holiday intrusion and ask for advice.

'My mother-in-law asked to come to my upcoming honeymoon and I have no idea what to do,' the woman explained.

She added that she believes her mother-in-law doesn't think she is good enough to be dating, let alone marrying, her son.

'Anyway, the other day we were sitting down and talking about my honeymoon, which is happening in December, and she said she would join me and my husband for a week,' the bride fumed.

Her partner's mother chose to bring up the awkward news when her son was at work - leaving the bride-to-be to process it on her own.

And while she said she is torn because she doesn't want to come between her husband and his mum - she is not happy with the idea.

And John was completely sympathetic, the MAFS star noting he wouldn't be comfortable with the request either.

'If you don't create a boundary now, then your marriage is going to be ruled by her,' he said.

He added the woman's soon-to-be husband would be key in creating boundaries without creating division.

He suggested the couple team up on the mother-in-law and create a united front.

He added that if her partner doesn't see her side then she is looking down the barrel of a crowded relationship in the future.

'Get clear on exactly what these are, for example not coming on the honeymoon, dropping over unannounced, ringing after 9pm, discussing money issues etc. Then sit down with her as a couple, let him lead and do all the talking, and then enforce the boundaries,' he said.
