The history of some long-running bands is characterized by stability over years and even decades. That's not the case with Lynyrd Skynyrd, whose decades-long history is punctuated by tragedy and an abundance of lineup changes over the years - leaving guitarist Gary Rossington as the only member of the band to play in every incarnation of the group.

Now, that band's days of heading out on the road for national and international tours may be drawing to a close. As Ultimate Classic Rock reports, vocalist Johnny Van Zant recently suggested that the group was entering the last year or so of their time as a touring band.

In an interview with the Florida Times-Union, Van Zant alluded to the band "hanging it up in the next year or so" - which he clarified as a retirement from touring. Among the factors he cited were the health problems Rossington has experienced in recent years, which have reduced his time on stage.

The band has been here before; in 2018, they announced a years-long farewell tour which collided with the pandemic. According to Ultimate Classic Rock's reporting, the latest announced date the band has is in February of 2023. Whether or not that will be their final show remains to be seen - but if you've been meaning to see the band in question live, this might be the time to do it.
