Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 14 family of devices during a September 7 event, titled "Far Out." Early reports from Bloomberg and 9to5mac suggest that four new iPhone models will be introduced, and new versions of the Apple Watch could be shown as well.

The event presentation will be broadcast on YouTube and Apple.com at 1 p.m. ET on September 7. Apple has opted for pre-recorded presentations since early 2020, but some members of the media have been invited to the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California for a separate briefing session that day.

Apple's last event was in March 2022, titled "Peek Performance." New hardware included a refreshed iPhone SE with 5G, an M1-powered iPad Air, and a Mac Studio using an M1 Ultra processor.

The new iPhone line is expected to come in four models, with two sizes. That would include 6.1-inch standard and pro models, and a larger version with a pro model as well. Apple is not expected to offer a smaller model like the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 Mini.

The new iPhone Pros will likely incorporate a new A16 processor and improved camera. Other rumors have suggested that the front-facing notch at the top that houses the Face ID camera could be scaled back to allow more screen room.

Bloomberg reports that Apple could introduce three new Apple Watch devices, including the first Pro model in the series. A successor to last year's Apple Watch Series 7 is anticipated, as well as a revision of the entry-level Apple Watch SE that premiered in 2020.

The Pro model of the Apple Watch is expected to have a larger screen and a more durable build than the Series 8 or SE models. The Pro Model could have exclusive features as well; the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was testing a thermometer and blood-pressure measure in its new Apple Watches back in 2021, but those features haven't been included as of yet.

Analysts will be paying attention to how the new iPhones and Apple Watches are priced, as inflation and market factors have driven up the price of popular devices like Sony's PlayStation 5 and Meta's Quest 2 VR headset in recent months.

Analysts expect the base iPhone 14 to match the $799 launch price of the iPhone 13. The iPhone 12 debuted at the same price, while the iPhone 11 was $699 at launch. However, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may cost more than their predecessors, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Apple Watch Series 7 cost $399 at launch last year.

Apple will very likely launch the iOS 16 software update alongside the new iPhone, which will give users the ability to unsend text messages and emails, and a more customizable lock screen, among other features. The title of the announcement event, "Far Out," could be a reference to more features coming to the new iPhones and Apple Watches too.
