A dog's hilarious reaction to meeting a cat for the first time is taking over TikTok, with users dubbing the pup "dramatic."

In a clip posted by @romitorescue over the weekend, Cara the rescue dog can be seen scooching out the room to escape the feline coming her way, before bursting into "panicked" barks the second she's through the door.

The footage has TikTokers in stitches, with the post receiving nearly 830,000 likes and more than 2,000 comments since 27 August.

According to the American Kennel Club, dogs and cats are not rivals by nature. However, their contrasting traits and ways of communicating can cause issues. A 2020 study cited pop culture as the reason the dog vs. cat myth exists, but noted that steps should still be taken to integrate pets of different species for a harmonious home life.

Surveying 1,270 pet owners, who had dogs and cats, researchers found that canines were generally more sociable, with both their humans, strangers and other animals.

While 42.8 percent of dogs tried to lick the cat, 41.8 percent of cats tended to ignore the dog. However, 68.5 percent of owners did report their furry friends sleeping together, with 62.4 percent saying their pets played together at least occasionally.

Researchers felt the results showed that most dog-cat cohabitations are peaceful, even if the pets don't form an emotional bond like they do with their owners. However, it may take time for the animals to learn each other's body language and social cues.

Rescued from Romania, Cara was adopted by her owners in October 2019. The profile is full of videos of Cara's "firsts," such as going to the beach, playing in the snow and listening to a speaker. Still, meeting a cat for the first time seemed to have had the biggest impact.

"Don't mind me," reads the caption on the video, as Cara slowly skulks away from the cat with her head down.

"RUN," the text reads as she approaches the door, followed by "*PANIC*" over and over again once she's over the threshold and begins freaking out.

"Always so dramatic," said user Aaron Wallace.

"Dog barely escaped with its life," joked Sarah.

"'It attacked me WITH IT'S [sic] EYES!'" wrote CashCab.

DWUKDW commented: "Poor baby scared themselves. Cats never gona respect them now."

Although Cara and the cat's introduction didn't go to plan, the internet is fall of dogs with feline friends. Darling duo Twig and Meadow won hearts in April with their "unconditional love," while a dog snuggling a cat also recently melted hearts all over TikTok.
