The funeral of the last leader of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, will be held this Saturday at Moscow's Novodevichi Cemetery, where he will be buried next to his late wife, his daughter Irina has told the Interfax news agency.
The press service of the Gorbachev Foundation said that the farewell ceremony of the former Soviet president will take place this Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 (local time), according to the TASS news agency.
The magnitude of the tributes that the Kremlin is willing to pay to Gorbachev are still unknown, in a context marked by the war in Ukraine which, foreseeably, will limit the presence of Western leaders.
Gorbachev died on Tuesday in a Moscow hospital at the age of 91 after a long illness. The architect of the first steps of today's Russia, his figure is associated with Perestroika, a set of political reforms within the Communist Party of the USSR, which won him more admirers outside than inside.
