​​​​​​Xbox Game Pass just added four new games, including Immortality which has received rave reviews, but many fans are looking forward to the new and already confirmed Xbox Game Pass titles for September 2022. Unfortunately before then, there are a lot of games leaving the service.
Fans are likely used to Game Pass titles leaving the service in the middle and end of the month. It's become the norm, and most of the time, it's not a big deal. This is because the additions often outpace the removals. However, Xbox Game Pass confirmed it would be losing 10 games on August 31, which is double the normal amount. It's also not just a matter of quantity, as several high-quality games are also leaving the service.

Of course, the biggest game leaving Game Pass is Hades. This roguelike game is able to tell a deeply emotional story about Zagreus, his father, and his family thanks to the die and repeat nature of the game. Because of its gameplay, story, characters, music, art direction, and so much more, Hades is a commercial and critical success for developer Supergiant Games. It holds a 94 on Opencritic, with 99% of critics recommending it, and it is widely considered one of the best games of 2022. Saying goodbye to it is hard on any day, but then nine more games join in on its departure.
The remaining games may not be as universally loved as Hades, but every subscriber is losing something if they had put off playing it and didn't do so before its departure. NBA 2K22 is a big one for sports fans, while Two Point Hospital has seen some resurgence following its sequel. What Remains of Edith Finch is hailed as one of the games that push video games as an art form, and World War Z (if a bit generic) is a solid multiplayer game for someone to pick up and play, especially if on a service like Game Pass. And then there's a ton more dumped on top of those.
Back to back, August 30 and August 31 include some of the biggest changes to Xbox Game Pass in recent memory. Other major games have come and gone, but the end of August was definitely a one-two punch. Hopefully, September takes more after August 30's releases than it does August 31's removals.
