It doesn't look like San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be traded any time soon. He reportedly agreed to a restructured, one-year deal to remain with the Bay Area team this week - which means artist Rita Carvalho has a lot of work ahead of her.
Carvalho, a 25-year-old artist living in Portugal, started drawing a picture of Garoppolo every day more than 200 days ago. She weaves topical pop culture references into her illustrations and posts them to her Twitter account. Her Twitter bio states she's "drawing Jimmy G every day until he's traded."
So with the news Garoppolo will likely stay with the Niners, what does that mean for the future of her unique designs? Look no further than Carvalho's latest post.
From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.
"I think people were expecting a response on whether I would continue to draw Jimmy or not," Carvalho told USA TODAY Sports+. "So today's drawing was my way of saying that the Jimmy G series is not over yet and I'll continue to draw him every day, as long as it makes sense for me."
The artist's latest drawing put Garoppolo in the role of Jordan Belfort from the controversial entrepreneur's dramatize biographical film "The Wolf of Wall Street" - specifically the scene where Leonardo DiCaprio, playing Belfort, announced to his company that he isn't (expletive) leaving.
"It's an iconic scene and it references Jimmy staying and at the same time it's me saying that I'll continue with the daily drawings," she said.
Carvalho became interested in the 49ers thanks to her boyfriend, who suggested she draw Garoppolo when trade rumors surrounding the quarterback were at a fever pitch. Carvalho posted the illustration to the 49ers subreddit. The positive reception - and subsequent lack of movement of Garoppolo - inspired her to continue every day until Garoppolo is traded.
"It was just a random fun idea that we had that lead to this whole series," Carvalho said.
Garoppolo is set to earn a base salary of $6.5 million, but the former second-round pick could make up to $16 million with incentives.
With the 49ers appearing to abandon efforts to trade Garoppolo - at least for now - the show will go on for Carvalho, too.
