Like most FromSoftware games, players have praised Elden Ring for its diversity of enemies and its lore; here, the two combine in the Crucible Knights, who boast an awesome hidden historical fact.

When Elden Ring released, FromSoftware fans flocked to it to delve into a new fantastical and brutal world. With its sprawling landscapes, awe-inducing graphics, and tough gameplay, it solidified itself as an instant classic. Further, players loved - and continue to love - digging into its hidden areas and obscure lore for as many secrets as they could find.

Now, one player has realized a connection between the game's lore and its real-life inspirations. Finding not just a cool historical easter egg, but also a connection to Celtic history, Redditor Crylyte shows the Crucible Knights in a new light.

Crucible Knights are a type of field boss in Elden Ring, meaning players can encounter them while traveling around The Lands Between. Because they're located out in the open, players can choose to battle them or run right past. Throughout the game, there are 16 possible Crucible Knights to fight, with 2 of them being in spirit form.

Additionally, one of the rewards players get for fighting these knights is an armor set - the Crucible Axe set. Players can obtain this by fighting Crucible Knight Ordovis Boss, and these four armor pieces contain some hidden lore details. One player, Redditor u/Crylyte, realized one particularly cool historic detail embedded within the armor descriptions. The Crucible Knights, Ordovis and Siluria, are named after real-life prehistoric time periods.

The game also seemingly named the Crucible Knight Ordovis after the Ordovician time period, and Crucible Knight Siluria after the Silurian time period. It's possible that this represents how truly ancient this order is - they are a union that is as old as time, ready to fight for their cause now and forever. Other Elden Ring fans have also noted that the malformation of the Crucible Knights' horns could be a reference to real-life biology. In prehistoric times, aberrant creatures like shelled ammonites began to evolve; this parallels the transformation of the Crucibles into something unholy - almost aberrant.

Even further, the name of these specific time periods come from ancient Brittonic Celtic tribes: Ordovices and Silures. FromSoftware's RPG title derives a lot of heavy inspiration from Celtic myth, history, and language. As this Redditor points out:

Irish culture can be found all across the game, making Elden Ring's roots decidedly Celtic in nature. This Crucible Knight example is just one of many, and it shows an impressive level of game-wide thematic unity.
