The following contains spoilers for Uncle from Another World Episode 6, "So They Threw Me into the Basement of a Freak Show...," now streaming on Netflix.

Even though it is technically an isekai anime, Uncle from Another World offers a more relaxed viewing experience than the typical adrenaline-pumping action the genre is known for. Its cast of characters is surprisingly wholesome, while most of the other extra characters have questionable morals. Moreover, Yosuke's backstory proves just how kind he actually is.

Episode 5 revealed the events that unfolded when Yosuke first arrived at Granbahamal, prompted by Mabel explaining that the Ice Clan's ancestor hailed from Japanbahamal. When Yosuke found himself in a foreign fantastical land, he couldn't speak the world's language. He was also mistaken as an orc variant due to his unsightly appearance, resulting in him being hunted by adventurers. He was granted the translation ability as his special gift, only to be sold as an orc that understood human language.

Episode 6 continued telling Yosuke's unfortunate beginnings. After being sold for three pieces of copper -- an amount 30 times less than a scrap's worth -- Yosuke was taken into prison. Unfortunately for the anime's main character, he was forgotten for a week. He wasn't given any food or drink. He started talking to a ray of light about his obsession with gaming, as well as the future of Sega consoles and games, to keep his sanity intact. When he reached his breaking point, he got up and approached said ray of light.

Yosuke grabbed the ray of light, which surprisingly broke and became a sword, thus becoming Yosuke's first magic spell. He then revealed that he wasn't just talking to the light but the spirit of light. This led to Fujimiya and Takafumi realizing that it was Yosuke's translation skill that made it possible. Yosuke used his newly-conceived sword of light to cut the bars and escape from prison. Along the way of his escape, he also freed the captured beasts and brought them back to the surface. However, the beasts then revealed their feral nature and attacked Yosuke.

Despite being a supposed hero, Yosuke's beginning is far from ideal. In fact, his backstory is more fitting for a villain. He gets transported into a new world without his consent, and a series of unfortunate events then ensues. Even though Granbahamal is filled with attractive beings, Yosuke is hunted as an orc variant for his ugly looks. Not only is he sold for less than scrap, but he is also thrown into prison and eventually forgotten for a whole week.

At that point, it would have been reasonable for him to have lost his sanity and aimed to destroy the world. Even if his morals remained intact at that point, the fact that the animals he saved attacked him could've been his breaking point. And with the way the citizens of Granbahamal have treated him, a berserk Yosuke may satisfy the viewers of Uncle from Another World more than the current, incredibly dense main character.
