Dove Cameron-the singer, former Disney Channel star, and Schmigadoon actress-gave a sultry performance of her song "Boyfriend" during the MTV VMAs pre-show on Sunday evening.
For the performance, she wore a black tuxedo and was supported by similarly uniformed backup dancers who brought sexy vibes to the sultry performance as they paired up in same-sex dancing duos.
Cameron is nominated for best new artist at the awards show alongside artists like Måneskin and K-pop group Seventeen.
Earlier this year, Cameron spoke to Them about her career so far and how she thought od many of her earliest characters as queer, even if they couldn't be explicitly LGBTQ+, given that they were on the Disney Channel.
"I definitely imagine Maddie went off to college and was like, Uh, why was I dating boys?" Cameron said of her role on the sitcom Liv and Maddie. She also noted to Them that her experience closely mirrored Maddie's. She talked about "how many shapes I had to fit into to date certain men, and then being like, This is painful, this is painful, this is painful. Why does this feel so painful?"
