The clock had ticked to around the 75 minute mark and Burnley were on their way to a win at Wigan that would be sealed by two late goals.

The sell out away end, enjoying an afternoon in the sun as the Clarets hit five for the first time in more than six years, chanted in unison the name Aro Muric. The keeper had just made a save to keep Burnley's lead intact having already palmed over a header from Callum Lang earlier in the half.

It was a welcome moment for all with Muric having been on the receiving end of some criticism in last week's draw with Blackpool, while the keeper felled Lang for Wigan's penalty on Saturday. But the Kosovo international's performance and decision making with ball at feet was much better on Saturday and he claimed high crosses and made key saves.

The 23-year-old is first choice and Burnley will retain their style of playing short when they can to create space in behind, something that was evident against Wigan and has led to goals this season. To have the support of the fans, to go with the backing of team-mates and manager, will help Muric moving forward.

"A big personality and it was a good day for him," said Kompany of his keeper after the game. "I don't know where the tally stands but I think it is four or five goals scored from the goalkeeper. You just can't change who you are and he has to stay who he is, work hard and perform, like every one else in this team."

Burnley ultimately prevailed 5-1 at the DW Stadium with two late goals adding the icing on the Clarets cake. It was a confidence boosting win for a side who hadn't prevailed since the opening weekend and felt they should have more points than they had prior to the trip to Greater Manchester.

It came together for large parts of the contest against Wigan and it means Burnley can move on to Tuesday's game with Millwall boosted by the five star showing. The fans in the away end on Saturday certainly enjoyed it and there is an increasing sense of a connection between the supporters and Kompany's new look Clarets.

At full time, the away fans - asked to remain in their seats until the stadium had cleared - were still basking in the glory of the result. Burnley's subs, warming down, saw an opportunity and Matt Lowton led the chorus of cheers, conducting the away end as they soaked it all in.

It was an ovation Vitinho felt when he was replaced earlier in the contest. The Brazilian set up the opening two goals in an all action display deputising for the suspended Ian Maatsen. The second was a moment of Samba skill with a nutmeg on Tendayi Darikwa before crossing for Josh Brownhill to score.

When Vitinho's number went up in the second half he wondered off on the far side and was able to walk round the pitch in front of a buoyant away end who sang his name and chanted his song. He's become a fan favourite early in his Clarets career and his showing on Saturday was his best in a Burnley shirt.
