10 Things Jeremy Allen White Can't Live Without

Jeremy Allen White is many things. He's a native Brooklynite. He's a husband and a father. He's Lip from Shameless. He's also the season's hottest chef. At least, he plays the part as Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto from FX's summer hit, The Bear. Jumping from his decade-long stint on Shameless to the great unknown (a brand new television series with no guarantee it'll even air) is no small feat. Yet White has managed to not only figure it out but is also enjoying the ride. Even with all the attention and the hoards of people shouting "Yes, Chef!" at him on the street, White managed to find some time to sit down with GQ and share his 10 Essentials. Thank you, chef.

His most beloved gear is all, unsurprisingly, very regular guy stuff. He's always got a book in his bag. He uses a Moleskine to keep his day organized (in between the pages of art his daughters have scribbled for him). While most A-listers get their workouts done in private studios led by celebrity trainers, you can find White doing pull-ups at the local park, wearing a pair of $3 work gloves. "They make you look pretty serious," White admits. His family raised him as a Yankees fan, but he now roots for the Mets, thanks to his wife. Before you ask, no, his Mets hat is not an expensive vintage relic. He bought it years ago and just wears it.a lot.

White admits he wasn't much use in the kitchen before The Bear. As you can imagine, that's changed now. After endless research, a crash course at the Institute Culinary Education, some time back of house at a Michelin-starred restaurant (no big deal), White can whip up a lot more than a grilled cheese. But even before he got to chopping mountains of onions, his secret sauce was-and still is-S&B's umami topping. "I will have this everywhere with me," he confesses. Whenever he travels, he brings with him a fancy fig-scented candle from Diptyque to ground him and remind him of home. And he keeps his skincare routine simple. Just some warm water and Kiehl's Facial Fuel with SPF20. "I feel like with this, I don't need much else," he says.

But out of all of Jeremy Allen White's essentials, perhaps the most notable might be his sneakers: a pair of all-white Nike Cortez's. "It's been probably like six years of me wearing the shoe and I'll never stop," he says. That is, unless he can get his hands on another pair, since Nike seems to have [furiously searches internet] discontinued the style? For a very classic, very regular-guy shoe, it's baffling that it can't be found anywhere, save for the few holdouts trying to flip them on StockX. For now, he'll have to ride out his current pair.
