Two people have been arrested after a council worker was shot dead in a Liverpool garden.

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder after 28-year-old Ashley Dale was killed on Sunday in Formby, Merseyside.

Police also arrested a second woman on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Ms Dale died days after nine-year-old girl Olivia Pratt-Korbel was also shot dead in Liverpool.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in the early hours of Sunday but Ms Dale could not be saved and she later died in hospital.

Local police are still appealing for witnesses to the shooting of Ms Dale and a cordon remains in place after the incident.

Ms Dale's younger brother Lewis Dunne was killed in 2015 by a gang who mistook him for a rival.

In a statement, Inspector Cath Cummings also said: "Our thoughts remain with Ashley Dale's family and friends following this appalling incident which led to her tragic death.

"Our officers have now made two arrests last night. Enquiries continue to establish the motive behind this attack, and identify all those involved."
