The Goring Hotel in London is where Kate Middleton spent her last night as a commoner

When Kate Middleton laid her head down for bed on April 28, 2011, she had a big day ahead of her. Luckily, her head hit a luxurious pillow in one of the best suites in London. She was not quite yet a Duchess but she was already living like royalty.

The nights before her wedding to Prince William the now Duchess of Cambridge stayed at The Goring Hotel in Belgravia. It was quite a convenient location as the closest hotel to Buckingham palace and offered all the pomp of a five star establishment.

In fact, The Goring holds an official Royal Warrant and has been a favourite with the royal family since it first opened in 1910. It is also the last remaining family-owned luxury hotel in London. Of course, when Kate stayed she was treated to an extra dose of luxury.

Kate was put up in a Royal Apartment on the top floor. According to The Daily Mail, the rooms had been given a £150,000 makeover; the suite was also filled with more than 20 bouquets for the royal bride. Prices for a stay at the Royal Apartment start at £8,400 per night.

The Royal Apartment features four poster beds, antiques, a grand piano and much more. Did we mention the walls are lined with the same silk used in the First Class Dining Room of RMS Titanic 1912? Meanwhile, the silk in the bathroom matches the silk in the Buckingham Palace Throne Room.

The Middletons love The Goring so much they hired out the entire 71-room hotel to host family and friends travelling into London for the wedding. They also held a private party for those who didn't make the invite list for the Buckingham Palace reception.

In addition to its exquisite rooms and suites, The Goring is home to one of the largest private gardens in London. There are hundreds of herbs and flowers growing in the hidden oasis to be used in botanical cocktails and fresh food.

If you're not looking to splash out on an overnight stay you can always spend a decadent few hours in one of the three restaurants and bars. The Dining Room holds a Michelin star and offers fine British food under the light of Swarovski chandeliers. Mains range from £34-£62 for one person.

Alternatively, guests can indulge in an afternoon tea on The Veranda. The Goring even holds The British Tea Guild Council's Top London Afternoon Tea Award and changes its menu to incorporate seasonal fruit from local sources. Packages start at £60 per person.

If it's just a cheeky tipple you're after, The Goring Cocktail Bar prides itself on using liqueurs and spirits from fellow Royal Warrant holders and features a grand piano in the centre of the room for live entertainment. We wonder if they ever play the Duchess' favourite song, I Wanna Dance with Somebody?
