This year's The Game Awards event has now officially been confirmed for December, with headmaster Geoff Keighley promising a memorable night of gaming. Every year since 2014, gaming fans from all over the world have tuned into The Game Awards - one of gaming's most-watched shows - to honor the best releases of the past 12 months and look forward to the future, as special awards are given out and trailers to upcoming titles are shown off. Like most aspects of the entertainment industry, the past few Game Awards events were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the 2020 show being held in a virtual-only venue before 2021's The Game Awards show returned to a live audience at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Last year's Game Awards event matched the return to a live crowd with a strong assortment of awards and trailers, with Hazelight Studio's emotional platformer It Takes Two being honored with the coveted Game of the Year Award and titles like Deathloop, Returnal, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits winning in their respective categories. Trailer-wise, The Game Awards 2021 had plenty of reveals for triple-A titles like Sonic Frontiers, Star Wars Eclipse, and Monolith Productions' Wonder Woman game on top of previews for live-action adaptations like Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and the live-action Halo series. Now, the stage is being set for The Game Awards 2022 to highlight this year's successful releases and next year's impending blockbusters, and viewers can finally mark their calendars for the upcoming event.

Earlier today, Geoff Keighley revealed that The Game Awards 2022 will be held on Thursday, December 8 in a live broadcast from the Microsoft Theater in LA. In the same Twitter post that this announcement was made, Keighley briefly reflected on how this year's event will mark the ninth Game Awards showcase and promised that his staff has been working all year long to provide fans with "something very special" when The Game Awards 2022 airs all over the world this December.
In addition to the expected livestream, this year's Game Awards event will be shown in select IMAX Live theaters in the US, Canada, and the UK - though viewers will have to pay to watch the same ad-filled stream on a massive movie screen. As for the show itself, many signs point to February's Elden Ring being the game most likely to win Game of the Year, especially since the upcoming God of War: Ragnarök could be released right after the cutoff date to be eligible for the show. Other games likely to be nominated at this year's Game Awards livestream include Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Horizon Forbidden West, and even the PS5 remake of The Last of Us that is currently slated to arrive next month.
It is truly anyone's guess which previously released titles will be honored at The Game Awards 2022, or what future titles could be revealed. However, it has been confirmed that this year's big gaming award ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 8, and it promises to be a night to remember in the ever-expanding world of video games.
