The Metropolitan Police are appealing for witnesses after two hit and run incidents occurred just metres away from each other in West London on two consecutive days. While there were no reports of injuries in the first incident, one man had to be taken to hospital in the second.

The first incident occurred just after midnight on August 15 on London's busy Edgware Road, not far from the Marble Arch monument at the southern end of the road. A video uploaded to YouTube shows fire crews attending the scene of two cars outside the Shishawi Restaurant, opposite the Tesco Express.

The second incident, reported to have taken place in the evening of August 16, took place immediately in front of Edgware Road Underground Station . A video of the incident uploaded to Twitter shows an injured man lying on the ground next to a fallen moped while being attended to by bystanders.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said police were called at 12.25am on Monday, August 15 to 'reports of damage' after a collision involving two vehicles on Edgware Road. The spokesperson added: "Officers attended. The drivers of both vehicles were reported to have left the scene. The road was temporarily closed to traffic."

Regarding the second incident, the spokesperson said that police received reports of an injured moped rider on the Marylebone Road Flyover at 9.05pm on Tuesday, August 16.

The spokesperson said: "A male moped rider is believed to have been struck by a car which did not stop at the scene. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service attended. The male was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as non-life changing. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the car involved.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have footage of it from dash cams or other devices should call 101, giving the reference 6951/16AUG."

Asked if police believed the two incidents were connected, the spokesperson responded: "I don't have anything further at this time, but don't believe they're linked."
