While video games are often a solitary escape, it is always wonderful to find a game that you can share with the people you love. Sometimes you want to show off your gaming prowess, other times you want to laugh and struggle with your best buddies.

Cooperative games can be the best fun, or they can be an endless nightmare. You can play them long-distance via online connection, or in person with an extra controller or by sharing the keyboard. This list covers some of the best games you can play on the Playstation 5 while hanging out on the same couch.

No Straight Roads is a rhythm exploration/combat game where you play either Mayday or Zuke (or alternate between both if you're playing single player), who make up the band Bunk Bed Junction. Your gameplay will take you through Vinyl City and up against rival bands.

Your characters powers will grow as you acquire more fans, unlocking new parts of the skill tree. Tailor your character's powers to your gameplay style, or buff them both for more options to play off of each other. There's a lot to love about this game, so get ready to jam.

A 2D platformer that is also a knockdown-drag-out battle, Georifters is a one of the co-op games that's not at all about cooperation. Use the same world manipulating tools to solve puzzles and to sabotage your friends. Victory is all the more sweet when friends are yelling at you.

Not only is the clay-like art style adorable, but you get to customize your character. Choose from a variety of base options and dress them up to your liking. Cause chaos in style, and make it easier to tell yourself apart from your friends so you don't accidentally destroy your own chances of winning.

With Pile Up! Box By Box it's time to relax and solve puzzles. There's no combat in this game, so it's the perfect game to play as a group, even though it has a single player mode. Work with the various components in game and you cooperators to complete the levels and snag collectibles.

Every puzzle you complete stays completed after you finish a level, so you won't have to redo any tedious task when you want to replay a level to find things you missed. Outside of the main gameplay, there are arcade-like mini games and costumes to customize your cardboard box. Yes, that's right, you play as a box!

With the release of its DLC, and its animated show, Cuphead is back in the forefront of the public mind. Its run-and-gun mechanics and its 20th century cartoon style gives this modern game a timeless feel. Even the overworld navigation and boss-fight focus will remind you of the early days of video games.

The two-player mode of Cuphead is a fun way to play the game, especially if big bosses make you nervous. Having a friend by your side makes things easier, and being able to yell at each other and at the game definitely helps let out the stress. Just make sure your buddy likes friendly anger.

We've all been victims of physics, it is the nature of being a human in this world. Stickfight is a combat game where you use physics to your advantage, before it's used against you. Become a stick figure and test your combat skills against your friends and family.

The fights are faced paced, there are hundreds of unique levels, and you've got dozens of options when it comes to weapons. You can use the environment to your advantage, or you can simply focus on having it not get used against you. Try and outlast everyone, or overwhelm your opponents with your crushing might.

You're nobody. No really! In this game you play as Nobody, a blank slate with an empty head and no clothes. As you explore, you'll gain the ability to transform into just about anything in order to tackle the challenges and quests that litter this unique and brightly colored environment.

With co-op two negatives do make a positive and you'll unlock new ways to complete the various levels by combining your skills, plotting out what forms to take, or just messing around. This is a game meant to be played in many different styles, so its perfect for playing with a variety of different friends.

The best part of this game is, hands down, the character customization options. Actually, that's a lie, the gameplay is just as much fun as making and remaking your Sacksona as you unlock new skins and costume pieces. The level design is just beautiful, and it doubles down on the narrative conceits to do it.

Team up with a buddy or three to play the levels competitively and cooperatively. Work together to complete the level goals, and see the scoreboard at the end to see who carried the team. You can toss each other, distract enemies, and punch your friend in the face to steal the trophy! In the game. Don't punch your friends in real life.

Soundfall is a musical dungeon crawler where you are chosen as Guardian of Harmony by the Composers to defend Symphonia from Discord. Now that was a whole lot of words, even though we were all aware that composers have always been greater beings.

The gameplay is rhythm based, and involves looting, shooting, and generally making a mess of things as your progress through the game world. You can play solo, or with friends, and while it has hundreds of original songs you can import your own music for a completely unique experience.

Man the battle stations! Navigate the ship! Pet the alien! Wait, what? Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a co-op game for up to 4 plays, although you can play it by yourself with an AI-controlled pet creature that is just so stinking cute you want to give it all the pats.

The levels are randomly generated, so it's never the same twice, and your spaceship is customizable to help perfect your gameplay strategies. While the controls are simple and easy to master, the real challenge is trying to communicate with your fellow players while trying to destroy aliens and not hit asteroids.

KeyWe is a game for learning how to communicate. You and your best gaming buddy will take the roles of two kiwis who are new hires at a Post Office staffed by cassowaries, an octopus, and some guy who's taking all this in surprising stride. The levels start out simple as you're getting the hang of each new facet of the job, but pretty soon it's all sandstorms and flooding in the mailrooms.

The stellar cooperative gameplay would be enough to recommend this game, but you can customize your adorable kiwis by saving up your in-game currency, finding collectibles, and playing through bonus "overtime" levels. It really has everything you could want from a co-op puzzle game.
