Saddle River County Park Playground in Ridgewood, New Jersey is part of the massive 577-acre Saddle River County Park. It consists of five parks that are linked by a multi-use path, with circular paths around some ponds. While each park in the system offers a playground we chose to focus on the ones with accessible playgrounds. This was the first one we visited and it was truly special.

As part of our challenge to write about 100 New Jersey playgrounds in 100 days we bring you the details about one of the Saddle River County Park Playgrounds, the playground in Ridgewood. This park is also referred to as the Wild Duck Pond Area.

This Ridgewood playground is part of the Saddle River County Park which is part of the Bergen County Park System. It is not visible from the road. The park and playground are located at 1133 East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood, New Jersey

There are two playground structures, a playground for toddlers and preschoolers. The other larger playground is more suitable for older kids, 5 years old and older. There are swings, slides, monkey bars, and more.

There are 4 structures with swings at this playground in Ridgewood.

There are 7 slides at this Saddle River County Park playground in Ridgewood. There are 4 slides on the toddler equipment, two are side-by-side slides.

There are three slides on the main structure. All the slides are open and one twists.

The playground features climbing walls and ladders, a fireman's pole, a tunnel, and more.

The ground surface is wood mulch.

Yes, this is one of two ADA Accessible Playgrounds in the Saddle River County Park system. The other is in Rochelle Park and will be featured on Jersey Family Fun later this summer. In addition to the accessible swings, the main playground structure is wheelchair accessible. There is a wide ramp and platforms with some sensory play areas.

The canopy tops on the playground equipment provide some shade. There is shade at picnic benches and tables under trees as well as pavilions throughout the park.

There was a large parking lot located near the playground and other parking lots around the park. There is a total of 4 parking lots.

Restrooms are located in a building with additional port-a-potties out front.

In addition to the playground at Saddle River County Park, there are additional amenities available for visitors. From the park website we see, "the park amenities include picnic areas, a pavilion with electric (permit required), a dog park, activities include fishing (NJ State Fishing License Required), model boating (by permit only) and ice skating when weather conditions allow.

There is a walking path around the playground and park. Taking the path around the playground 3 times would be just over a mile.

We did not see any fields or courts for sports, but there were open grassy areas. The website doesn't list any courts either.

The playground area is fenced in but I believe that's more because of construction than anything else. Bergen County is working to restore the Wild Duck Pond area. You can learn more details through signage at the park.

View the Wild Duck Pond Area Map on the Bergen County Parks website.

The 577-acre Saddle River County park spans Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Paramus, Rochelle Park, and Saddle Brook.  A 6 mile walking/biking/multipurpose path connects each park in each town. Start the day at a playground in one town, and "hike" or scooter to a playground the next town. Have a fun family experience playground hopping from one spot to the next.

Saddle River County Park has entrances in Saddle Brook, Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Rochelle Park, and Parmus in Bergen County. Most parks open at 10 am, and close 1/2 hour after sunset.
