Warm weather, with high temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius, is expected in Finland over the coming weekend.

However, according to Yle meteorologist Joonas Koskela, heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are on the horizon as well.

"Tomorrow, Friday, rain and thunderstorms will move from western Finland to southern Lapland via northern Ostrobothnia. It is too early to say how severe the storms will be," Koskela said.

Storms are also expected in southern and central parts of the country on Thursday, but skies will clear by Friday and temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius.

"Saturday looks really cloudy and hot in most parts of the country. However, a low pressure front is on the way and will spread across Finland on Sunday," Koskela said.

By Sunday temperatures are forecast to drop below the 'heatwave' mark of 25 degrees, but will remain above 20 degrees in most parts of Finland.

Koskela added that the forecast for next week suggests warm and sunny conditions, but he did not want to give exact figures.

"At the moment, forecasts show that the heatwave temperatures will return towards the end of next week. However, they may not disappear at all between now and then," he said.
