From Geaux Tigers to no Tigers.
LSU Tigers passer Myles Brennan made a surprising decision to step away from football on Monday, just weeks before the Tigers are set to open their regular-season slate vs. Florida State.
It's unclear why Brennan, a one-time LSU starter whose opportunities were robbed by injuries, decided to step away from the game in its entirety. On Monday, he put out a lengthy statement, but didn't offer any real insight to why he made the decision.
Instead he gives thanks to LSU supporters, teammates and coaches for his opportunities, simply saying it's time for a "new chapter."

Tiger Nation,
Over the last five years, I have given all of my body, heart, and soul to LSU Football. Playing for LSU has been a dream come true. Wearing the purple and gold, running into Death Valley, winning a national championship, and starting at quarterback fro the LSU Tigers - what more could a kid ask for? I will never forget the time I've spent and the memories I have made here.
To the players who have suited up alongside me; to the coaches who recruited, signed, and developed me; to the training staff who has cared for me; to the support staff who has a provided everything I needed to compete at the highest level and continue my education; and to the fans who cheered for me every step of the way; thank you.
I want to say thank you to the student body, the administration, and the entire LSU fan base for all your tremendous support over the last five years. I will never forget my time in Baton Rouge. I love LSU and all our fans.
I am forever grateful for every opportunity I've been given, every obstacle I've overcome, and every second I've been a Tiger. However, after five seasons, it is time for me to start a new chapter in my life. I am announcing today that I will be stepping away from football. I am thankful for where this journey has taken me so far, and I am looking forward to where it takes me next.

In total, Brennan appeared in 18 games with LSU, starting just three, throwing 201 passes for 1,712 yards, 13 touchdowns to six interceptions. Brennan backed up quarterback Joe Burrow during the Tigers' 2019 national championship run.
The three games Brennan started came in 2020, when he was named starter for the team before an abdominal injury sidelined him the remainder of the season. In 2021, an off-the-field arm injury cost him another opportunity at starting; the injury occurred just two days before the start of training camp.
Brennan spent five years with the program in total, and had intentions to transfer from LSU in late 2021, before a conversation with new Tigers head coach Brian Kelly changed his mind.
This offseason, the LSU passer was locked in a QB battle with Jayden Daniels, Garrett Nussmeier and Walker Howard. Reports indicated that Brennan wasn't going to be named the starter for 2022, which could have led to his decision to step away.
Brennan hasn't weighed in on that specifically, but clearly, his future beyond football weighed on his mind.
It's unclear who will be named the starter for LSU's Sept. 4 season opener vs. Florida State, but transfer Jayden Daniels likely has the leg up on the competition.
Daniels, a four-star recruit, transferred this offseason from Arizona State to join new head coach Brian Kelly in Baton Rouge. Redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier should get second shot at the job.
