Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the cutting of fibre-optic cables on a railway line near the town of Lempäälä last week.

The damage caused significant delays to train traffic between Tampere and Helsinki, with some services running up to four hours behind schedule.

Police previously stated that video footage of the suspects had been captured by surveillance cameras, which showed the act being committed as well as the van the two suspects used to escape.

"The suspects are old acquaintances of the police," Detective Inspector Lassi Suoranta said.

Suoranta was not willing to reveal the ages or gender of the suspects, however, he did confirm that both are Finnish citizens.
