The government's planned saving campaign for autumn will not solve the energy crisis, warned Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä (Centre).

The campaign will target households amidst the energy crisis brought on by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The minister told news agency STT that, unfortunately, next winter the biggest incentive to save electricity will be the cost.

The state will start a campaign aimed at citizens on Thursday 25 August and it will continue throughout the season. Encouraging people to lower the thermostat and taking shorter showers are among the end goals of the campaign.

According to Lintilä, there is nothing in the foreseeable future that would cause electricity prices to fall.

Meanwhile, the Governor of the Bank of Finland Olli Rehn said that the government needs to offer temporary assistance to those who are most vulnerable to energy price hikes.

In just over two weeks, the government will decide in its budget debate on ways to support those who are struggling with rising energy costs, among other things.
