When it rains, it pours, and it will continue to pour hard in the majority of the country on Monday (Aug 8) due to the southwest monsoon or "habagat", according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its latest weather bulletin on Monday, the weather bureau said that habagat will continue to affect Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, the entire Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao, bringing overcast skies and thunderstorms in the said regions.
The scattered rain showers may lead to possible flash floods or landslides according to PAGASA.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy skies with chances of rain showers and thunderstorms.
PAGASA weather forecaster Obet Badrina said that a low-pressure area (LPA) that recently left the Philippine area of responsibility has continued to strengthen the southwest monsoon in Luzon.
Additionally, two to three storms could affect the country before the end of August according to forecasts.
As of Monday 11 am, PAGASA has monitored another LPA formed inside PAR, 960 kilometers east of Mindanao.
The LPA will move northwestward and will dissipate by Wednesday.
It will, however, bring rains over Caraga and Davao Region in Mindanao.
Earlier, PAGASA predicted that more tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) from July to December 2022.
In a statement during the 149th National Climate Forum on Wednesday, PAGASA climate monitoring chief Ana Solis said that around 10 to 15 cyclones might enter PAR the rest of the year.
Solis said that two or three cyclones may possibly enter PAR in each month of July, August, September, and November.
Meanwhile, two to four storms are expected in October and one or two are expected in December.
