A man in Helsinki died on Sunday after losing consciousness when being taken into custody, according to the police.

Ambulance workers on Sunday morning alerted the police to help deal with an aggressive patient in the capital's Kivikko area.

The man suddenly lost consciousness when being apprehended and later died despite resuscitation attempts, according to a police statement.

The incident will be investigated by the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department. The prosecutor is set to release further information at a later date.
