The number of overnight stays by foreign tourists in Finland was four times higher in June than in the same month a year ago, according to accommodation figures published by Statistics Finland.

The majority of foreign tourists were from Germany, the United States, and Sweden.

The amount of domestic travellers increased by eight percent in the same time period.

In June 2022, combined overnight stays for foreign and domestic tourists in Finland increased by one-quarter, year-on-year. Meanwhile in Uusimaa, which includes the greater Helsinki area, the total number of overnight stays doubled compared to June of 2021.

Hotel occupancy rates rose to 54 percent this June compared to 14 percent in June 2021.

However, the total number of overnight stays this June was six percent lower than in June 2019, before the Covid pandemic.
