The Tiktok account of first-term Member of Parliament Sofia Virta (Green) has been unexpectedly deleted by the China-based social media platform.

Virta announced the deletion of her account in a tweet and also via a press release.

She said the platform had likely removed her account because of her stance on human rights, referring to a video she published in defence of abortion rights for women in the United States, which garnered up to eight million views.

"The question arises, of course, about whether this is political. Can it be a coincidence that a widely circulated human rights video and account is arbitrarily removed from a Chinese-owned platform?" Virta wrote.

Tiktok has not provided any justification for deleting the account, but videos and entire accounts can be deleted from the platform based on reports from other users.
