Amazon Prime Day is a sales event that started in 2015 to commemorate the Amazon's 20th anniversary. Since then, the event has reliably been Amazon's biggest sale of the year, with major discounts across all product categories.
Prime Day will take place July 12 and 13 in 2022, according to an Amazon press release, which also revealed Prime Day will be extended to 20 countries this year and will feature more small- and mid-sized businesses than ever.
Prime Day discounts are only shoppable for Amazon Prime subscribers. An Amazon Prime membership costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year (there are some discounts for students, seniors, and other qualifying individuals). If you have never had an Amazon Prime membership, Amazon offers a 30-day free trial for first-time subscribers.
On Amazon Prime Day in 2021, there were over two million deals across every category, including home, tech, fashion, appliances, furniture, beauty, and travel. We expect many of the same and more deals will be available this year.
Teich says that the best deals tend to be in the tech and appliance categories. "While we don't know exactly what will be on sale for Prime Day this year, last year's sales showed steep savings on Apple products, including 20% off AirPods and $80 off Apple Watches; kitchen appliances, including Instant Pots and over 30% off air fryers; and cleaning appliances, including 20% off select Bissell products and 43% off Eufy robot vacuums," she said.
