Phil Mickelson has confirmed his participation in next month's Sentry Tournament of Champions on the PGA Tour, marking his first appearance at the event in 21 years.

Mickelson will join a whole host of PGA Tour pros at Kapalua in Hawaii for the first official event of 2022.

The 51-year-old won the tournament at La Costa Resort in 1998, but has returned only twice since it moved to the Plantation Course at Kapalua in 1999, with his last appearance coming way back in 2001.

He qualified for next year's tournament, which features only PGA Tour winners from the previous year, by winning the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island at age 50 to become the oldest major champion in history.

Mickelson's inclusion in the field means all four major champions from 2021 will be at Kapalua from January 6-9, with Lefty joining Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama, US Open winner Jon Rahm and Open champion Collin Morikawa.

The likes of Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are also in the field, but Wells Fargo Championship winner Rory McIlroy is choosing to start his season with the DP World Tour's Middle East swing instead.
